India's first test match victory

In a country where cricket is above any other sports, its hard to believe that Indian team took 20 long years to register their first test victory. 

India started playing test cricket in 1932 but tasted its first success in 1952 against England at Madras Cricket Club Ground, Madras (Now Chennai).

England was leading the series by 1-0 before the final test. 

The Final Test

In the final test, English Captain Donald Carr won the toss and opted to bat first at Madras Cricket Club Ground, Madras. On a slow wicket, England Team crumbled for just 266. Vinoo Mankad was the pick of the bowlers who took 8/55. India replied strongly with fine batting performances by Pankaj Roy (111), Polly Umrigar (130) and D G Phadkar (61) and posted a mammoth total of 457.

With a big lead of 191, English side came under pressure and bowled out for just 183 in the second innings. Mankad (4/53) once again tplayed an instrumental role in dismissing England side along with Ghulam Ahmed (4/77). England lost the test by an innings and 8 runs.

It was also the first time that India managed to level the series 1-1.
