US Open: Dominant Pegula Gets Past Kenin Into Third Round
American Sofia Kenin: No. 3 seed Jessica Pegula put on a superb, dominant performance to overcome American Sofia Kenin to reach the women's singles third round at the US Open, reaching this stage for a seventh year in a row in New York on Wednesday.
This was the seventh head-to-head clash in the rivalry between the two players, and Pegula was in imperious form as she won 6-3, 6-1 in just 56 minutes.
Pegula, who will become World No. 1 for the first time if she claims her maiden Grand Slam title and if Elena Rybakina loses before the semifinals, improved to 47-12 overall this season and 5-2 against Kenin, who had reached the second round by beating veteran Venus Williams.
