Japanese Erisa Sano Herring: India, who had been awaiting the return of international squash to her shores, welcomed the Indian Open with a day full of fiery matches and performances that were full of determination, here at the Bombay Gymkhana on Monday. For India, it was Tanvi Khanna who stood out, while the Egyptian contingent had 6 winners on the day at India's first ever PSA Squash Copper tournament.
Day 1 of the JSW Indian Open kicked off with Helen Tang from Hong Kong, who was up against the Japanese Erisa Sano Herring. The contest lasted 35 minutes as Tang used all her guile to win by a 3-1 margin (11-8, 11-9, 9-11, 11-8), sealing her spot in the second round.
Next on court was India’s Nirupama Dubey and she had the Egyptian Nour Ramy standing in her way. Dubey fought hard for 50 minutes, and brought the contest to level pegging at 2-2, but the Egyptian had too much in the tank on the day, as she walked away with a 3-2 (11-7, 11-1, 5-11, 8-11, 11-7) win.
