समरेश जंग: भारतीय शूटिंग के 'गोल्डफिंगर', जिन्होंने अंतरराष्ट्रीय स्तर पर जमाई धाक
5 मई 1970 को हिमाचल प्रदेश के सिरमौर में जन्मे समरेश जंग के दादा शेर जंग स्वतत्रंता सेनानी और एक बेहतरीन निशानेबाज थे। समरेश के पिता भी सेना में कर्नल रहे। दादा और पिता के नक्शेकदम पर चलते हुए समरेश ने भी देश सेवा को चुना और सीआईएसएफ ज्वाइन की।
साल 1997 में सैफ गेम्स में समरेश जंग ने 2 गोल्ड और 1 सिल्वर मेडल जीतकर अपनी छाप छोड़ी। मैनचेस्टर में खेले गए कॉमनवेल्थ गेम्स 2002 में समरेश ने 2 गोल्ड और 3 सिल्वर अपने नाम किए थे। उसी साल उन्हें 'अर्जुन पुरस्कार' से नवाजा गया। 4 साल बाद उन्होंने मेलबर्न में खेले गए कॉमनवेल्थ गेम्स 2006 में 5 गोल्ड, 1 सिल्वर और 1 ब्रॉन्ज मेडल पर निशाना साधा। शानदार प्रदर्शन के लिए उन्हें 'बेस्ट एथलीट' भी चुना गया। समरेश यह सम्मान पाने वाले पहले भारतीय थे।
