Debashish Mohanty, who celebrates his birthday on 20th July, was one of the top-class fast bowlers in India during the late 1990s. He was unknown for his ability to swing the ball. In what can be called a short career, Mohanty made a huge impact with his open-chested action. 

Here are some interesting facts, trivia about Debashish Mohanty:

1) Mohanty was born in Bhubaneshwar, Orissa in 1976. 

2) In the 2000-01 season, Debashis Mohanty took ten wickets in an inning while playing for East Zone against South Zone. 

3) 1999 World Cup logo was inspired by Mohanty's lanky frame and bowling action. 

4) Mohanty wasn't in the probables for the World Cup squad in 1999. He was picked at the last moment keeping English conditions in mind and his ability to swing the ball. 

5) Debashish was the second-highest wicket-taker for India in the World Cup 1999, after Javagal Srinath, with 10 wickets. 

6) His first wicket in ODI was Pakistan's Saeed Anwar while in Tests, Mohanty picked up Sanath Jayasuriya as his first scalp. 

7) Saeed Anwar once confessed to Sachin Tendulkar that he found Debashish Mohanty unplayable. The fast bowler has dismissed Anwar thrice in three games during the Sahara Cup in 1997. 

8) In 2006, he joined Colwyn Bay Cricket Club in Wales as a club professional. 

9) He was appointed as coach for Odisha's Ranji Team in 2011. Under his coaching, East Zone won its first Duleep Trophy. 

10) In 45 ODIs, Mohanty picked up 57 wickets. In 117 First-Class games, the lanky bowler picked up 417 wickets. His wickets in 129 List-A games read 160.
