पूर्व भारतीय क्रिकेटर मोहम्मद कैफ का मानना है कि शुभमन गिल रोहित शर्मा से वनडे कप्तानी लेने के लिए पूरी तरह से तैयार हैं। कैफ का ये बयान तब आया है जब शुभमन गिल की कप्तानी में भारतीय टेस्ट टीम ने इंग्लैंड में सीरीज 2-2 से ड्रॉ करवा दी। गिल ने पूरी सीरीज में ना सिर्फ एक बल्लेबाज के रूप में बल्कि एक कप्तान के रूप में भी अपने धैर्य और संयम का परिचय दिया।
कैफ ने अपने यूट्यूब चैनल पर कहा, "वो बहुत ही शांत कप्तान थे। उन्होंने दबाव में भी धैर्य के साथ नेतृत्व किया। उन्हें वनडे टीम की कप्तानी भी मिलेगी क्योंकि हमें नहीं पता कि रोहित शर्मा कब तक कप्तान बने रहेंगे। गिल कप्तानी संभालने के लिए तैयार हैं। वो सीमित ओवरों में रन बनाते हैं। उन्होंने टेस्ट मैचों में कप्तान के रूप में अच्छा प्रदर्शन किया है और आगे बढ़कर नेतृत्व किया है। जब आप एक युवा टीम के साथ जाते हैं, तो आपको दोनों काम करने होते हैं।बल्ले से रन बनाना और कप्तान के रूप में अच्छा प्रदर्शन करना। कुल मिलाकर ये उनके लिए एक शानदार दौरा रहा।"
